halo reach

Developers: Bungie
Publishers: Microsoft game Studios
Release Date: 14/09/2010
Format: XBOX360
If a game needs to be remembered, its for games like this one. Halo Reach, doesn’t follow the Icconic Master Chief killing the Covenant solo for the entire campaign, this is a story of sacrifice at its most difficult. Those of you who have played the Halo franchise will already know that Reach was the last planet to fall before the Covenant headed for earth. A planet, full and rich of life, wiped out in the name of war. This game follows an elite group of Spartan Warriors, known as Noble team. You take over the role of Noble six, the newest addition to the team. The ending is already known by yourself, possibly by the characters too, but this doesn’t hamper the actions of the most memorable group Spartans to grace the Halo World. (but I will try to remain spoiler free as possible.)
Halo Reach, sticks with the tried and successful gameplay of every other Halo game before it. Why change ? You are another Spartan, like Master Chief himself. And players will feel instantly familiar walking in another man’s boots. Main difference is you are not a one man army. You always have the help of at least another Spartan, although the AI of your colleges may be questioned, their heart for Reach isn’t. They will drive you to hell and back with you on the back of a Warthog blasting anything non-Human. Or vice versa, in fact, they are near perfect shots, so I recommend you do the driving as you will need to make every shot count here against impossible odds.

The missions you embark are incredibly varied, the usual stealth and sniper to flying space craft and taking part in co-ordinated epic battles against massive Covenant walking mechs. A few addtions to Halo Reach do separate this from Master Chief’s escapades. You can equip perks, to aid you in your mission, these are usual picked for you, and all add something unique to the battlefield. Jet packs, increase you jumping reach, invisibility, makes you invisible and Armour Lock, enables you to become invulnerable for a few seconds. These also make a great addiction to the chaotic online multiplayer too, using the same formula from Halo 3, Reach doesn't vary from this but adds a little something extra. Also new are the Hornets, The USMC light transport attack helicopters. These balance the air superiority usually held by the ever present Banshees. But the Hornets even get good use in the campaign too. Having to fly between skyscrapers rescuing VIPs and civilians over the battle torn Capital City.
But the most memorable moment from Reach is once the Pillar of Autumn has escaped (where we first met Master Chief in Halo1), your lone Spartan’s mission is done. With nothing left to lose, you are given one last objective, Survive. Like a sort of enemy wave defence game, you just need to last as long as possible against oncoming Covenant forces. You don’t survive; I don’t think you can to be honest. Once the inevitable happens, you are show a heart touching movie of the Sacrifice the Spartans of Noble Squad made, putting others before themselves and giving people enough time to make their escape without thinking of the consequences of themselves. Making the ultimate Sacrifice.
Halo Reach combines the fine Gameplay that made Halo Combat evolved a Smash hit, uses the experience gained from Halo 3 on what the XBOX360 Console can do and gave us story worth dying for. Halo Reach in my view is better than Master Chief’s solo rampage. It has heart and gave us a reason to fight and it will always be remembered.
