the walking dead

Where to begin with TWD. If you're a fan of Robert Kirkman's comics then this will be right up your alley, if you're not, why not? This will be right up your alley!
It is an emotional roller coaster that knows how to make its audience feel for a character, sympathise with their loss and hope that they make it through the ride in one piece. Also it has the ability to make you feel anxious when presented with options that are just the choice of a rock and a hard place and throughout the story the rocks and places get bigger and harder to choose from.
TWD is set in the near post-apocalyptic future, starring everybody's favourite antagonist. Zombies. They are your basic George A. Romero zombie; brain dead, slow movers and hungry for flesh. They provide the scares in this tale, but they take a back seat the majority of the time to the story, game play and emotion that is provided by the perfectly written cast.
You play as convict Lee Everett, he grows exponentially as a person and as a father figure to the real star of the game, Clementine, she is without a doubt one of the best characters in the game, if not the entire TWD universe, she is the one that provides the hope and love in such a dark world, while everything is falling around you she is the one to provide that little ray of sunshine through the cracks to guide you into the daylight, the one you fight for and the one that in the final episode, when you’re making a decision, it’s not your safety you’re worried about, its hers.
Your goal throughout the game is to get Clem back safely into the arms of her parents, who are across the country when the outbreak happens, you join forces with a rag-tag bunch of survivors to ensure you complete your mission. During the 5 episodes you get many chances to alter the outcome of the game, Do you choose person A or person B? Do you pick this line to say or say nothing at all? The littlest line of dialogue could end up having the biggest impact, and the way you treat someone during the first four episodes could have dire consequences for you when you play the fifth and final one.
The story is well written and wouldn't be out of place in comic book form or on the flashing box in your living room, it has everything you would expect; loss, joy, death and zombies. It has won many plaudits in the time since its release and once you've played the first level it’s easy to see why.
If I were to lay any criticism at its feet it would be that its pacing towards the end of the third episode and in the fourth is a little“slow”, once you've played the final episode you realise that its climax more than exceeds expectations. Game of the Year gets thrown around a lot and there are more than enough pretenders to the throne, but in 2012 the only game to throw its hat into the ring and be truly worthy was Telltale Games: The Walking Dead.
