What is a Squiggly Gamer?
On the 24th June 2011 PSM3 Podcast, Editor Daniel Dawkins, in a rant over low game scores and Public Relations said,
"...anyone can set up a blog, say, Squigglygamer.com"
This throwaway statement was heard by none other than Clint Tokley.
When Battlefield 3 hit the shelves back in October 2011 the games developers DICE also set up Battlelog, a place where people can get together, play, share and compare their games and stats. You could also create platoons and fight under the same clan tags. Clint Tokley, member of the PSM3 facebook page saw this as an opportunity to create a small band of brothers who would fight for the name of PSM3.
And so Squiggly Gamers Platoon was born. At first our numbers were small and only included other members of the PSM3 facebook page, but this group of people from all parts of the globe, age groups and walks of life grew into great online-friends. Together we played the objective and worked together during our many hours on Battlefield 3. Teamwork being something that separates Battlefield over other First Person Shooters. We advertised for more members on the PSM3 facebook and our numbers grew. By February 2012 we had reached 40-plus members and set up our own facebook page to further accommodate our needs and numbers. We even started getting members mentioned in the PSM3 magazine which helped raise our cause and profile. Not long after we decided to expand our gaming library beyond Battlefield 3. Although it was the reason we all came together, we knew it wouldn't grow, just based around a single game. This one decision opened the floodgates and caused a massive influx of members wanting to play together and enjoy their games!
Before we realised where we were, we were uploading videos to YouTube, organising daily events, clan battles, competition nights and giving away Squiggly Gamers merchandise!
This idea of getting together for a laugh, is now beyond a joke!
And, now with our beloved PSM3 magazine closing its doors, the role of a Squiggly Gamers has never been so important. We carry on the title of PSM3 into the future and beyond!
